This year’s Science Week focussed on the 1969 Moon Landings, with children all across the school launching rockets, designing and creating their own class astronaut and learning the “hidden” story of the work of Katherine Johnson and her colleagues who calculated the orbits of the rockets, while working as “human computers” for NASA.
During the week we had visits from the UCL Geobus (visiting years 3 and 4) who let the children handle meteorites and use 3D glasses to study the surface of the moon, Dr Heather Campbell from the University of Surrey to work with Year 5 and 6, Mrs James to do a chemistry demonstration for year 2, and STEM Ambassador Liz Tinlin who gave Years 4 - 6 an amazing overview of the Space Race between the USSR and USA in the 1960's.
All the work produced in the week was showcased in our annual Science Fair.
