Daily Prayer

At St. Alban's, collective worship and daily prayer are integral to the spiritual development and wellbeing of our pupils.

Worship is embedded within the school life and reflects our Catholic ethos.

Prayer tables & Prayer Monitors

Every class has a prayer table and prayer monitors to plan and lead whole class collective worship and ensure the cloths match the liturgical calendar. We love having our own intention boxes so that staff and pupils can add their own thoughts and prayers.

Gospel Collective Worship

All pupils participate in a Monday (KS2)/ Tuesday (KS1) morning Act of Worship, known as our ‘Gospel Assembly’.  This is organised by the Deputy Head and involves pupil-led discussions and ensures that pupils have an opportunity to be involved and included within the act of worship. It follows the structure of:

  1. Gather
  2. Listen
  3. Respond
  4. Go Forth

Prayer & Worship

A form of prayer and worship is timetabled into each class. This might be one of the following:

  • Lectio Divina
  • TakeTime Meditation
  • Visio Divina

This is an opportunity for the pupils to reflect & repent.

Hymn Singing

Wednesdays are our days to celebrate our faith through singing hymns of praise & worship. This session is led by the Worship coordinator Miss Daly, and involves pupils singing hymns relevant to the liturgical calendar. These are uplifting and opportunities for spiritual joy.

On Tuesdays, there is also an after-school hymn singing group, led by the Chair of Governors, who learn hymns to sing at our parish Church and school masses

Pupil-led prayer & worship

By the end of the week, we provide the children with more opportunities to lead prayer and worship. Pupils are able to plan their own ‘class prayers’ sessions which follows the same structure as Monday’s Gospel Collective Worship

  1. Gather
  2. Listen
  3. Respond
  4. Go forth

Celebration Assembly

We celebrate the achievements of our pupils and hand out merit awards to two pupils from each class. Reasons for these awards include: 10/10 learning, living out Gospel values, being a role model to peers.

Please see the following weekly prayers that you can use at home and pray together with friends & family inspired by the Gospel. We love hearing the childrens' stories of home prayers with their family.
